Landon Sexton Titonka, IA Obituary, Death: Family Mourns Tragic Death

TITONKA, Iowa — The hearts of family, friends, and communities across northern Iowa are heavy following the passing of Landon Arthur Sexton, who died on May 6, 2026, at the age of 30. Though his life was far too short, those who knew Landon say he filled every chapter of it with humor, loyalty, kindness, and a quiet love for the people closest to him.

Born on August 5, 1995, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Larry and Rhonda (Harms) Sexton, Landon grew up surrounded by the beauty of the Rocky Mountains. Some of his happiest childhood memories were built around camping trips, four-wheeling adventures, roller hockey games, and long days outdoors with family and friends. He was the kind of kid who threw himself wholeheartedly into everything he loved — from Boy Scouts and derby races to hockey and later trapshooting.

Friends still laugh about the scar on his forehead from a roller hockey accident, a permanent reminder of how fiercely competitive and fearless he could be.

When the Sexton family moved to Iowa in 2007, Landon embraced farm life and quickly became involved in 4-H and agriculture. Those years helped shape the man he would become — hardworking, humble, and deeply connected to the land and people around him. Summers were spent showing poultry, competing with friends, hunting, fishing, golfing, and building lifelong memories.

Those close to him remember Landon as someone who never rushed through life. He moved at his own pace, carried a permanent smirk that suggested he knew something everyone else didn’t, and had a dry sense of humor capable of making even difficult days lighter. He wasn’t loud or attention-seeking. Instead, he built strong relationships quietly and authentically.

After graduating from Algona High School in 2013, Landon attended Iowa State University, earning a degree in Agronomy in 2017. While many students spent most of their time in lecture halls, Landon could more often be found working at the Iowa State Dairy, where he genuinely enjoyed the work and camaraderie. It was during his college years that he met Maranda, the woman who would become his wife and lifelong partner.

The couple married in August 2019 in Clear Lake, beginning a life centered around family, friendship, and shared dreams. In July 2022, they welcomed twin boys, Emmett and Everett — a moment family members say transformed Landon completely.

More than anything else, Landon loved being a father.

He adored his boys with every part of himself. Whether playing outside, making them laugh, or simply sitting beside them at home, Landon found his greatest joy in fatherhood. Family members say the twins absolutely idolized him, following him everywhere and lighting up whenever he entered the room.

Though Landon enjoyed hunting and fishing, friends jokingly noted he rarely wanted to eat anything he harvested. He simply loved the outdoors, the tradition, and the time spent with people he cared about. His dogs were equally beloved companions, and he never passed up the opportunity to spend time outside with them.

Known affectionately as “Big Landon,” he was the favorite uncle, dependable friend, easygoing cousin, and steady presence family members could always count on. He made people feel comfortable simply by being himself.

His passing leaves behind unimaginable grief for his wife Maranda, sons Emmett and Everett, parents Larry and Rhonda, extended family members, and countless friends whose lives were made better because Landon was part of them.

Yet even in sorrow, those closest to him say his legacy is unmistakable.

It lives on in the stories friends continue sharing. In the fields he worked. In the memories made around campfires and fishing trips. In the laughter he brought into every room. And most importantly, in the lives of his two young sons, who carry forward the best parts of the man who loved them beyond measure.
