QEW Niagara Traffic Accident Today, Multiple Crashes Caused Heavy Delays Across Niagara and Hamilton Corridor

NIAGARA REGION / HAMILTON — A series of collisions along the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) created major traffic disruptions Tuesday, with delays affecting both directions of travel across key sections of the highway between Hamilton and Niagara.

Ontario Provincial Police reported multiple crash scenes along the corridor during the day, prompting lane closures and sustained congestion as emergency responders worked to manage traffic, assist drivers, and clear damaged vehicles from the roadway.

Traffic was heavily impacted through the morning and afternoon commute periods, with some stretches reduced to stop-and-go conditions for several kilometres. Drivers described significant delays as vehicles were rerouted around active collision scenes.

Tow operators and highway crews remained on scene for extended periods in some locations while investigators examined the circumstances of the crashes and worked to reopen lanes safely.

While officials have not released a full count of the vehicles involved, police confirmed that multiple collisions occurred during periods of heavy traffic flow along the corridor. No fatalities have been confirmed, though some individuals were assessed by paramedics.

The QEW, a major artery connecting the Greater Toronto Area with the Niagara Region, frequently experiences congestion due to its high traffic volume and mix of commuter and commercial vehicles.

Drivers were advised to expect residual delays as cleanup and investigation work continued into the evening.
