Edgardo Reyes-Rivera, 23, of Denham Springs, Jonathon Puente, Death, Killed in Head-On Crash on Louisiana Highway 27 Near Natalie Road; Toyota Camry Crossed Centerline, Struck BMW as Investigation Ongoing

Two men lost their lives Friday afternoon following a devastating head-on crash on Louisiana Highway 27 near Natalie Road in Calcasieu Parish, according to Louisiana State Police. The fatal collision occurred shortly after 3:30 p.m. and involved a northbound 2022 Toyota Camry and a southbound 2014 BMW 550i.

State police identified the victims as Edgardo Reyes Rivera, 23, of Denham Springs, Louisiana, and Jonathon Puente, 35, of Beaumont, Texas. Preliminary findings indicate that Reyes Rivera’s Toyota crossed the centerline into the southbound lane for reasons still under investigation before colliding head-on with Puente’s BMW.

Authorities stated that Reyes Rivera was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. He suffered severe injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to those injuries. Puente, who was reportedly wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene as a result of the impact.

Emergency responders from Louisiana State Police Troop D and local agencies rushed to the scene following the collision, which temporarily shut down portions of Highway 27 as investigators conducted crash reconstruction efforts and crews removed debris from the roadway.

The tragic accident has deeply affected loved ones in both Louisiana and Texas, where friends and family are now mourning two lives lost unexpectedly. Community members have expressed sorrow over the crash while offering condolences and prayers to those impacted by the tragedy.

Investigators continue examining what factors may have led to the Toyota crossing into oncoming traffic. Toxicology samples were collected from both drivers and submitted for analysis as part of the standard investigative process.

Authorities say the crash remains under active investigation, and additional information may be released as officials continue reviewing evidence and witness accounts connected to the fatal collision.
